John P. Bracken was born in Rockville Centre, New York on March 9, 1938, and became a member of the New York State Bar in 1963. Mr. Bracken is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. He graduated from Hobart College (B.A., 1960) and Fordham University (J.D., 1963), and served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-67.

Mr. Bracken has served on the New York State Judicial Screening Committee, Second Judicial Department, since his appointment by the Governor in 1983. He is an active member of the American Arbitration Association Panel of Arbitrators, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Suffolk and Nassau County Bar Associations, and the American Judicature Society.

His leadership roles have included President of the New York State Bar Association in 1992-93, President of the Suffolk County Bar Association in 1984-85, and President of the Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association in 1981-82. Mr. Bracken is also a Fellow and Director of the New York State Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Additionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates and he is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

Mr. Bracken has authored and presented numerous articles, speeches and lectures on various topics, including participation in programs of the Suffolk Academy of Law, the New York State Bar Association, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Hofstra University Law School, and Touro Law School.

Mr. Bracken has extensive experience in general commercial litigation, torts and trials, in both state and federal courts. He has represented corporations in business counseling, drafting of agreements, patent and infringement letters and the like. Mr. Bracken is a member of the Stony Brook Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow of the International Rotary Foundation. In addition to having an "AV" attorney rating in Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, Mr. Bracken is also listed in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
